Omental infarction is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain in the pediatric population. Children with omental infarction typically present with a clinical picture similar to that of acute appendicitis. All the pediatric series have so far reported an increased incidence in male children.
We report a case of 9 years old boy was in his usual health state. He has sustained sudden onset of right-sided abdominal pain and shift to RLQ abdominal pain about ten hours duration. No trauma nor operation history.
Physical examination revealed no fever, tenderness at right-sided abdomen region with rebounding pain and muscle guarding.Tentative diagnosis: acute appendicitisLaparoscopy was performed and resection of infracted omentum was done. Pathological report: omental infarction.Patient was discharged uneventfully after three days. |
