Summary:A comparative study was under taken over a period of 3 years to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes between fixation methods using clavicular hook plate and tension band wiring fixation for distal clavicle fracture or A-C dislocation.
Material:82 patients (tension band wiring fixation was used in 40 cases and a clavicular hook plate in 42) were recruited for the study. The follow-up duration was 36 months. All patients were treated primarily.
Results:Five wires migration and two loss of reduction occurred in tension band wiring group. No implant fracture or loosening was observed in hook plate fixation group.
Conclusion:Hook plate is a relatively simple implant which achieves reliable result in terms of stronger fixation and less complications comparing to tension band wiring thus it is therefore recommended. |
